Urban drift that maps state violence in downtown São Paulo

Deriva da Luz Vermelha is an urban night drift through downtown São Paulo created by the artist Brunner, performatively mapping important points of the region, to remember, reflect and not forget the state violence that historically marks this region, with special attention to the period of the dictatorship Brazilian civil-military and to the region of Luz, where today is the Memorial da Resistência, former DOPS, place of torture of civilians by the military.

Each drift has a different and unforeseen path and end point. The performance artist directs the audience in a drift intermediated by a red lantern and its signs and sensations. The drifts, preserving the situationist essence, have no predefined path.

The project was presented in September 2020 at the Tomie Ohtake Institute through audio tracks in the project " Ouvir Para Ver a Cidade ", but its beginning dates from October 2017 at Funarte São Paulo with drift through the neighborhoods Campos Elíseos, Santa Cecília and Higienópolis, and in November of the same year at the Festival Satyrianas with drift through the neighborhoods Santa Efigênia and República, in downtown São Paulo. In 2019, in partnership with the Memorial da Resistência and the Personal Theater of Faroeste, the project circulated in the region of Luz in five editions, with performance participation by the artist Mel Laurent and financed by the Secretariat of Culture of the city of São Paulo. Also in 2019, the project integrated the program of the event Jornada do Patrimônio, also from the City Hall of SP with two editions.
